There’s a saying among the locals in Mathisdalen: “The rougher the road, the better the story.” And we like to think it’s true.
As you leave the last signs of civilization behind, the paved road gives way to a forest track — a narrow, bumpy road once made for horse sleds. It winds alongside a wild, untamed river, crosses three charming wooden bridges, and leads you deep into the heart of the forest.
For four kilometers, you’ll find no traffic, no city noise — only the whispers of the trees, the occasional hare or fox darting across your path, and perhaps the fresh tracks of a moose or lynx in the snow or mud.
