Daily Aurora Walk at ONGA: Experience the Arctic Night

Daily Aurora Walk

Experience the magic of the Arctic night on our Daily Aurora Walk, included with your stay at ONGA Boutique Lodge. Nestled deep in the untouched wilderness of Mathisdalen, our unique location offers zero light pollution and uninterrupted views of the starry sky – an ideal setting for Northern Lights sightings.

After dinner, join us for a peaceful guided walk through the serene forest that surrounds the lodge. This short excursion invites you to slow down and fully immerse yourself in the quiet beauty of the Arctic. During winter months, snowshoes are provided to ensure a comfortable trek through the snowy landscape.

Alta, known as the “City of the Northern Lights,” offers one of the longest seasons for Aurora sightings, from September to early April. Whether you’re lucky enough to witness the vibrant dance of the Aurora Borealis or simply enjoy the tranquil stillness of the night, this walk is a perfect way to embrace the magic of Arctic slow living.

During the walk, you’ll learn about the science and history behind this mesmerizing natural phenomenon, and our hosts will be happy to assist you in capturing the perfect holiday photo.

Weather permitting, we’ll spend about 30 – 45 minutes outside before taking a short walk back to Onga Lodge.

For those looking for more demanding adventures, explore our Frozen River Walk, try other guided nature walks, or rent snowshoes and equipment to embark on your own Arctic expedition.
